Individual Health Insurance (Under age 65)
You need to be very careful in how you go about shopping for individual health insurance.
Step 1: Group Health Insurance Coverage
Typically better than individual insurance due to lower group rates better benefit s, tax deductibility of premiums by both employer and employee. Exceptions: young single health males, who will not be getting married anytime soon. There are employers with lower eligibility requirements such as only 20 hours per week at hospitals; schools. Cobra is not necessarily a bad option, depending on your situation.
Step 2: Preliminary Health Conditions Review
Disclose your most serious health conditions anonymously to see if you will be approved at what kind of rating versus a preferred quote.
Step 3: Formal Health Insurance Application
If the preliminary application comes back favorably, and/or you are very healthy, complete a health application with a well recognized health insurance company such as Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, or Humans. Please answer all questions honestly with full details. It will take two to three weeks to process your application.
Step 4: At time of Application you will need to pick a health plan and deductible. You want to evaluate your medical needs as a low, average, or high utilize of healthcare. Step 5: Upon receipt of approval or decline letter from insurance company, please submit needed items to place coverage enforce such as premium. If declined try another health insurer, or apply for ICHIA.
